Šokis žodžiu – ne[w]kritika (Dance Through Word – Not[new]criticism) was established in 2011 and since then has been running annually during International Dance Festival New Baltic Dance in Vilnius. In 2013 it was also organised during International Dance Festival Aura'23 in Kaunas. The project aims to strengthen the already existing critical discourse on and around dance in Lithuania as well as to develop new ways of reading, understanding, writing and talking about dance in the landscape of media diversity.
Meetings and discussions are mentored by dance critics Ingrida Gerbutavičiūtė and Vita Mozūraitė and dancer-choreographer Andrius Katinas. The organizers also invite guest speakers and encourages dance creators and (or) performers of the pieces discussed to meet the participants of the project and to talk about their ideas, creation process and possible ways of its interpretation.
Dance Through Word – Not[new]criticism is a Lithuanian part of a larger Writing Movement project of Nordic and Baltic countries.
